Our Story

10 years in poultry. One platform to change it all.

After 4 years working with Aga Khan Hospital, our Co-Founder quit in 2015 to venture into poultry farming. That boots-on-the-ground experience led to working with over 10,000 poultry farmers in East Africa, end to end across the poultry value chain, for over 10 years, building a million-dollar company that went on to become one of the biggest poultry companies in Western Kenya: Chicken Basket Ltd.

Along the way, he coined "Chomapreneurship," a concept that trained over 8,000 youth in street food vending, providing over 3,000 grills and business starter packages, supported by GIZ, FAO, USAID, MEDA, and the National Government.

In 2023, Abisai Nandi decided to pivot to Agtech, having seen first-hand the challenges farmers faced every day. He put his 10 years of experience toward something bigger: a platform that would change poultry farming completely across Africa. With GIZ approving the concept note, ePoultry was born.

In that first year, over 2,000 poultry farmers were engaged and 20 IoT hardware units were tested, generating over $40,000 in revenue with the pilot phase fully funded by GIZ. From there, a team of engineers was assembled, focused on hardware research and development, and EPOULTRY LTD was launched.

Today, ePoultry integrates 10+ productivity tools including record keeping, disease detection, extension services, a marketplace, and solar- and AI-powered hardware into one platform for smallholder poultry farmers in Africa.

Babu Rahman

Hardware & Systems Engineering

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and is recognized by Marquis Who's Who. 25+ years of hardware engineering leadership, including a decade at Apple leading battery, display and core technology development for iPhone. He has hands-on hardware engineering experience building and leading engineering teams across consumer electronics, medical devices, and clean energy technology spanning mechanical, electrical, optical, software, compliance, and test engineering disciplines. currently also a mentor at Miller Center Foundation. His deep hardware and manufacturing expertise directly strengthens the NestIQ path from prototype to a reliable, manufacturable product.

Peter Davis Krahenbuhl

Board Chairman

25+ years in business leadership with decades of experience guiding companies, governments, and NGOs toward impactful, scalable solutions. He is Co-Founder & CEO of AgriFlock 360 Inc, based in the US, a solar-powered platform transforming SME poultry operations through IoT-integrated smart brooders and AI analytics in Africa and US. Peter also serves as an Executive Director of Colorado CarShare, one of the longest-running shared mobility organizations in the U.S., and sits on the Board of Directors for the global Carsharing Association and the Advisory Committee of the Global ESG Leadership Organization. He previously co-founded and served as President of Sustainable Travel International, growing it from a startup nonprofit into a global industry leader, and has advised organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies on carbon management, sustainable supply chains, and integrated bottom-line standards. Peter holds a Master of Public Affairs in Environmental Policy from Indiana University and a double Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara.

Alex Olum

Operations & Business Development

15+ years of experience in Solar Energy Industry, former Managing Director of D-Light Kenya ($100M company in clean energy). Olum is the Founder & CEO of Access and Move Ltd, a solar energy company he has led since 2022, delivering over 3,000 clean energy systems to homes, schools, businesses, and institutions East Africa. Under his leadership, the company has powered productive-use solutions like solar deep freezers and water pumps, created over 600 direct jobs, and helped launch dozens of small businesses built around solar energy. He brings extensive expertise in route-to-market strategy, distributor management, trade marketing, and building high-performing teams from the ground up. Olum holds an Executive Master's in Business Administration from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), graduating with honors, and a Bachelor's degree in Education from Maseno University.

Dave Okech Okech

Strategy & Marketing

15+ years in Agri Business, Founder & CEO of AquaRech Ltd ($500m company based in Kenya). He built the AquaRech platform to tackle the core challenges facing small and medium-scale fish farmers - access to quality feed, credit, technical assistance, and structured markets - by connecting input suppliers, farmers, processors, traders, and consumers across the aquaculture value chain. His flagship innovation, AquaFedha, combines financial inclusion, mobile technology, and ecosystem support to unlock credit for smallholder farmers, with a particular focus on women and youth. Dave also founded Fish Deli, Kenya's first air-fried tilapia business, and has pioneered lease-to-own cage farming models that help smallholder farmers move from subsistence to profitability. Earlier in his career, he founded and led Sare Millers Ltd, supplying feed to livestock farmers and launching a poultry empowerment project for young girls, and worked as a Data Analyst at United Millers Ltd. His work has earned him recognition as a Mandela Washington Fellow (2016), Acumen Fellow (2019), Global Farmer Network Fellow (2020), African Food Systems Fellow (2022), and Obama Foundation Africa Leader (2022). Dave holds a Diploma in Actuarial Science and additional training from Wageningen University & Research and the University of Iowa's Venture School.

Abisai Naindi

CEO & Founder

Abisai didn't enter agriculture from a boardroom - he started in a chicken house. Over 10 years he has operated at every layer of Africa's poultry value chain: milling animal feeds, hatching tens of thousands of birds, losing companies, and rebuilding. He scaled a retail agribusiness to over $1M in gross revenue and worked directly alongside 10,000+ smallholder farmers across East Africa. He has lived every failure point the system produces - inaccessible inputs, broken cold chains, invisible markets, last-mile finance gaps, and data that dies at the end of each season. That firsthand experience is the foundation Abisai is now building on. As a Miller Center Fellow, he brings both operator credibility and institutional backing to the mission of building the tech infrastructure Africa's food system needs.

Tirus Tendwa

Assistant CTO

Tirus is a full-spectrum software engineer with deep expertise across backend systems, mobile development, and production architecture. He has built and maintained reliable systems end-to-end - from RESTful API design and relational database modeling with MySQL and PostgreSQL, to Flutter mobile applications and React/Next.js frontends. His backend work includes Node.js service architecture, Safaricom Daraja payment integrations, and practical experience in Golang and Java around concurrency and service design. At the company, Tirus owns the core technical infrastructure - designing systems with a long-term emphasis on clarity, correctness, and scalability. He is completing a degree in Applied Computer Science in 2026, grounding his extensive hands-on experience in strong engineering fundamentals.

Johnclinton is a full-stack software engineer and product designer with over 6 years of hands-on development experience across web, mobile, and backend systems. A Computer Science graduate of the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and ALX Software Engineering alumnus, he combines strong academic grounding with a proven freelance track record spanning e-commerce, finance, healthcare, and education. At the company, he owns the product layer - the official website, admin dashboard, and key backend modules - building interfaces and systems that translate complex agricultural workflows into seamless digital experiences. His stack spans React.js, Node.js, and mobile development, complemented by a sharp eye for UI/UX design that ensures the platform is as intuitive as it is robust.

2015

The Farming Journey Begins

2023

The AgTech Pivot

Having seen first-hand the challenges smallholder farmers face every day, Abisai Nandi decides to build a technology platform using his 10 years of experience. GIZ approves the concept note. e-Poultry is born: an AI-powered agrifintech platform to change poultry farming completely across Africa.

2024

The Pilot Phase and Launch

Over 2,000 poultry farmers engaged in the first year. 20 IoT hardware units tested in the field, generating over $40,000 in revenue. Pilot phase fully funded by GIZ. A team of engineers is assembled, focused on hardware R&D. EPOULTRY LTD is officially launched.

2025

1,000 Farmers and Growing

Reached 1,000+ active farmer accounts across 15 counties. Over 500,000 chickens transacted through the platform. 50+ extension officers deployed. Farm financing goes live: farmers access working capital for chicks, feeds, and equipment with repayment tied to their harvest cycle.

2026

Today

ePoultry integrates 10+ productivity tools including record keeping, disease detection, extension services, a marketplace, and solar- and AI-powered hardware, into one platform for smallholder poultry farmers in Africa. The Groups and Cooperatives portal is live. 200+ extension officers onboarded nationwide.
